Code of Ethics

The Code of Ethics has been produced by APBA in its role as a professional body for instituting and enforcing standards against corruption. It sets and defines the exemplary standards of behaviour for all its members.

Why we need the Code of Ethics

APBA’s Code of Ethics exists to guide the behaviour of its members. This is a proactive measure for driving our professionalism ethos which is a core requirement in our fight against corruption.

Our codes emphasise on standards that we seek to promote and the professional ethics that we hope to see practiced worldwide. APBA demands that every member (regardless of role) must take responsibility for ensuring that the principles and standards in the Code of Ethics are not being betrayed.

How the code helps us

The Code of Ethics is based on professionalism principles and acceptable social standards and behaviours that will inspire leaders and managers all over the world to uphold integrity and fairness.

  • It reminds us to do the right thing and provides standards that are acceptable to society regardless of jurisdiction

  • It reminds people that unprofessional behaviour damages the reputation of leaders;

  • It sends a clear signal against standards that must not be condoned, tolerated or ignored:

  • It makes it a duty for all to challenge below-standard behaviours;

  • It serves as an assessment standard;

  • It defines clearly actions, behaviours and conducts that are acceptable and those that are not.

  • It places an obligation on all members to challenge or report behaviour that does not meet the expectations set out in the Code of Ethics, thereby empowering people to stand up for what they believe in and demonstrate their personal integrity freely.

How the Code of Ethics benefit APBA’s service users/public

APBA stands against Corruption. Naturally, the public will judge us by expecting us to act ethically and professionally. The Code of Ethics makes it easier for the public to assess our performance which will also determine the extent to which we are endorsed by them.

The Co de of Ethics gives all our members a clear guide on ethical decision-making and behaviour. Therefore, it will encourage the public to demand the highest standards from us.
